Owner of an Egyptian tomb discovered in 1970s identified

A tomb excavated at Al-Assasif necropolis at Luxor’s west bank has been identified to belong to a man named Amun-Mes. The tomb was discovered in 1970s and was labelled as Kampp 23 as the owner was not identified.

Several inscriptions mentioning Amun-Mes have been found elsewhere in Luxor. These inscriptions label him as “King’s Advisor”, “Head of Quarry Services” and “Tax Collector”. Experts are not certain if all these titles are for the tomb’s owner or if there were multiple people with the same name.

Future work is expected to clarify Amun-Mes’s status and identity.

This report was published in Bone & Bronze.
